Kappahl Group continues its growth journey and invests in circular business models by acquiring a majority stake in Arkivet, Sweden’s leading second-hand retail chain.

“We are impressed by Arkivet’s concept, which presents and offers second-hand fashion in a modern way to customers who want both to buy and sell pre-owned garments,” says Elisabeth Peregi, President and CEO of Kappahl Group.

The acquisition forms part of Kappahl Group’s strategy to build a family of strong brands, where each brand develops independently while benefiting from shared group resources.

“This is an important and exciting step for us. Arkivet represents a business model we strongly believe in and one that has a natural role in a more responsible fashion industry, where garments are given a long life. By investing in Arkivet, we are strengthening our position in circular fashion and taking another step towards our purpose – contributing to a more responsible world of fashion,” says Elisabeth Peregi, President and CEO of Kappahl Group.

Martin Hallander, CEO of Arkivet, sees significant opportunities in the partnership and views Kappahl Group as a key partner in making second-hand fashion more accessible to a wider audience.

“We are genuinely proud to welcome Kappahl Group as a partner. With its strong Nordic presence and extensive experience in brand building, we see great opportunities to scale the Modern Second Hand offering together. Kappahl Group’s ambitious commitment to sustainable transformation has been a decisive factor for us in choosing a partner.”

Arkivet’s Modern Second Hand offering is built around a curated assortment created together with its customers and presented through an inspiring in-store experience. Together, Kappahl Group and Arkivet see strong potential to further develop the model and expand it, starting in the Nordic market.

“We founded Arkivet with the ambition of normalising second-hand fashion and making it more accessible. With Kappahl Group as majority owner, we gain a strong partner and better conditions for continued expansion and development, while remaining true to who we are as Arkivet,” says Martin Hallander, CEO of Arkivet.

Elisabeth Peregi concludes:

“At the same time, we will continue to develop our own circular initiatives within both Kappahl and Newbie. By investing in innovative companies such as Arkivet, we create better opportunities to jointly develop and scale circular business models. This is an important part of our journey forward.”
