Accessibility requirements that apply to us
As a Swedish e-commerce company, we’re required to follow the Act on Accessibility of Certain Products and Services. You can find out more about this law on the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority’s (PTS) website.
We meet these legal requirements by following the European accessibility standard EN 301 549, which promotes inclusive design. We also adhere to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, a global standard for web content accessibility.
How accessible is our app?
We aim to meet all criteria in the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standard. Overall, we believe our app meets these requirements, but there are still some areas that need improvement. See the section below: Content that isn’t accessible.
Content that isn't accessible
We know some parts of the app aren’t fully accessible yet. We’re actively working to fix this and expect to have the issues resolved by fall 2025.
General issues
These may affect all visitors:
- The app doesn’t work in landscape mode.
-
The app doesn’t respect personal settings. For example, text size set on your device.
-
Some clickable areas are too small.
-
Some documents aren’t accessible because they were published before current legal requirements. We’re updating them on an ongoing basis.
-
Some videos don’t meet accessibility standards because they were published before current legal requirements. For example, the video on the Working within Kappahl Group page.
-
The service for reporting misconduct isn’t fully accessible. It's provided outside our e-commerce offer and not covered by accessibility legislation. We’re still working with the supplier to improve it.
For screen reader users
-
The first time you open the app, a page is shown where the content is not read out in the correct order.
-
The skip link to jump past the header and go straight to the main content can sometimes be hidden behind a banner.
-
Product images on product pages and in listings are missing alternative text. We’re working on adding this, and expect to have it in place by September 2025.
-
In the shopping cart, the buttons for “Increase,” “Decrease,” and “Remove” lack clear descriptions. If you use a screen reader, it can be unclear what the buttons do and which product they apply to.
-
When you remove, increase, or decrease the number of items in your shopping cart, you don’t get a clear confirmation of what changed. This can make it hard to tell if your action went through.
-
On the checkout page, screen readers may have trouble recognizing when the language changes. We’re working with our service provider to fix this.
-
In forms with checkboxes or radio buttons, it’s not always clear what the options refer to. It can feel like hearing options without first hearing the question.
-
Error messages in forms aren’t clearly announced by screen readers. This can make it hard to know what needs to be corrected before moving on.
-
Line breaks are sometimes used just to add space in the text. This can make screen readers pause in unexpected ways.
-
The list of job openings isn’t clearly read out by screen readers. For example, the application deadline can be hard to hear, and some text is read in the wrong language.
For keyboard users
-
The skip link to jump past the header and go straight to the main content can sometimes be hidden behind a banner.
-
It can be hard to control the app with an external keyboard.
-
The app doesn’t always clearly show where the keyboard focus is.
How we test accessibility
We regularly test the website’s accessibility through both internal and external reviews, including:
-
External manual audits by the accessibility company Funka in March and June 2025.
-
Manual tests carried out by our editors and development teams.
