"We are extremely proud of our bright, new premises in what is without parallel the best commercial location in the whole of Finland," says Jari Lahtinen, Managing Director of KappAhl in Finland. "The new store concept makes it easier and more inspiring than ever to shop at KappAhl. We have made a big effort to attract customers into the store by building a new entrance from Citypassagen and installing lifts to level two to facilitate access for customers with children´s pushchairs and customers in wheelchairs."
For the second year in succession KappAhl improved its earnings to report profits of SEK 120 million in 2003, an increase of SEK 326 million in just two years. Sales improved in all four of KappAhl´s current retail markets - Sweden, Norway, Finland and Poland.
"It´s very gratifying to see the improvement in earnings that we have made in Finland," says Christian W. Jansson, President and CEO of the KappAhl Group. "What we are witnessing now are the effects of two years of hard work, during which the focus has consistently been on customers, stores and our product range. Now we are moving on to the next stage, developing and improving our offer to attract even more customers into our stores. We see great potential for expansion on the Finnish market - from our current portfolio of 30 stores to a total of more than 40. We have already signed a contract for a store in Espoo that is scheduled to open in the spring of 2005, and negotiations are currently under way to establish several more stores in Finland."
