ABOUT WORKING AT KAPPAHL

IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET A WEEKEND AND SUMMER JOB IN KAPPAHL STORES?

Yes, sometimes we need extra staff, particularly during the summer, at Christmas and at weekends. However, we have no central list of store vacancies, so you must contact the store manager at the store in which you wish to work.

WHERE DO I APPLY FOR A JOB IN A KAPPAHL STORE?

Each store manager is responsible for recruiting staff according to need. Contact the store where you want to work.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A STORE JOB?

You must be at least 18 years old because checkout work is an integral part of all store jobs.

WHAT QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO GET A JOB IN A KAPPAHL STORE?

Previous experience of retail sales is an advantage, but it is not essential. We are more concerned with your personal qualities: you must be service-minded, enjoy selling - and, of course, be passionate about clothes.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT ARE THERE WITHIN KAPPAHL?

The company offers plenty of potential for co-workers to develop both personally and professionally, not least through a variety of internal training programmes. When we recruit, we always look to recruit internally first.

I WOULD LIKE TO WORK FOR KAPPAHL ABROAD. HOW DO I GO ABOUT THAT?

Each KappAhl country recruits its own staff locally according to needs.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A JOB AT KAPPAHL HEAD OFFICE?

Most of the candidates for positions at the KappAhl Head Office are recruited internally. When it is necessary to recruit externally, we advertise on our website, but we also place adverts in the press or on job sites on the internet.

VACANCIES

At the KappAhl Head Office we only take post-secondary students from courses at the colleges with which we cooperate. There are opportunities, however, to apply for work experience in the stores. Contact the store direct.

I AM A STUDENT. CAN I APPLY FOR A WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME AT KAPPAHL?

Yes, we take students from textile courses at the colleges with which we cooperate.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET A SUMMER JOB IN EITHER THE PURCHASING OR MARKETING DEPARTMENT?

Occasionally we do employ summer staff. Otherwise, you have a better chance of getting a summer job in our stores. Contact the store of your choice directly if you are interested.

I WOULD LIKE A JOB AS A BUYING ASSISTANT. WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?

You need a combination of educational qualifications in the field of textiles and previous experience from the industry, either as a seller or buyer of fashion. One example of a relevant qualification is a degree in textiles management from the School of Textiles at the University College of Borås, but other post-secondary school courses in textiles may fulfil the requirements just as well. See also the job description for Buying Assistants.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO BE A BUYER FOR KAPPAHL?

Most of our buyers are recruited internally. As a buyer for KappAhl you will buy for all our sales countries and participate in the work on our collections from the initial idea phase all the way through to production and delivery. In order to do this successfully you need several years´ experience as a buying assistant, plus suitable qualifications. For further information, see the job description for Buyers.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO BE A DESIGNER FOR KAPPAHL?

You need a combination of design training and industry experience. You must be creative and have an eye for fashion, yet still think commercially.
The clothes you design must sell! Skills in cutting, sewing and materials science are also an advantage. You will find details of textiles courses at the University College of Borås, on http://www.hb.se/english/

HOW DO I BECOME A PATTERNMAKER?

At KappAhl patternmakers are called "production technicians". The job requires a combination of training in pattern-making and previous experience in the industry. Skills in computer-assisted drafting and cutting are also preferable. KappAhl works with Lectra Systems CAD/Cam software.

CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY TEXTILE COURSES?

The course you choose will depend on your previous experience and education. The School of Textiles at the University College of Borås and the magazine, Habit, have put together a guide on design and textiles courses in Sweden. You will find the guide on the University College of Borås website at www.hb.se under the section "Institutioner" - "Textilhögskolan THS" (School of Textiles).
